No hit or miss manual machining of valve seats here!
Modern cylinder heads require more sensitive methods of centering due to smaller guide id’s. Harder seat materials cannot be cut properly with outdated tools. Form tools are fast, but fail to cut precise angles due to tooling deflection. Many machinist hold fast to outdated methods to avoid making the required investment. Our ongoing commitment to quality has required that we purchase the equipment for the best possible solution. Since 1998 we have utilized a Newen cnc to generate valve seat profiles. This machine performs an automatic centering cycle where the spindle is referenced off the valve guide centerline. Then the actual machining is done automatically by simultaniously traversing the single point insert and retracting the spindle. This method reduces the cutting forces and results in a more accurate seat profile. The seat can be formed with multiple angles and/or radius. The Newen software allows for a profile to be developed to suit the individual restraints of the work piece. We are no longer limited to the form tool like typical competitor’s machines. Combine accurate alignment and control of the cut geometery, with careful sizing of the guide ID, and you have a quality valve job. Due to the efficiency of the cutting cycle, and economies of scale, our customers discover the cost associated with this method is very reasonable. We offer this level of quality because other methods leave too many parameters to chance.
